BOTOX®

Express your true self with Botox®

Illuminate Med Spa in Peoria, AZ is proud to offer BOTOX® to local individuals to assist in graceful aging and to prevent facial wrinkles and lines from forming on the top portion of the face. This injectable procedure provides outstanding results and is very common among both men and women. BOTOX® can make a significant enhancement to dynamic lines, which are caused by expressive movement of the muscles on the forehead and around the eyes. The lines disappear as the face relaxes, but dynamic creases can still exist. BOTOX® is a clean and purified strain of botulinum toxin (type A) that temporarily blocks the movements of the facial muscle. To soften these dynamic wrinkles, BOTOX® is injected to smooth the skin. most commonly places BOTOX® injections between the eyebrows, on the Crow's feet, and across the forehead.

Ideal candidates for BOTOX®

BOTOX® is great for individuals who wish to soften the appearance of dynamic lines and wrinkles on their face without surgery. BOTOX® can also be used as a preventive treatment — even if you do not yet show signs of aging, keep in mind how often you tend to make facial expressions. It's a terrific nonsurgical treatment if you are frustrated by forehead lines or parallel lines between the brows. It's also a solution for lines around the eyes. If you have deeper lines, a filler product may be more suitable. In addition, if you are older with sagging skin and widespread wrinkles, you may be considered for other types of treatments, such as PDO thread lifts.

BOTOX® Procedure Technique

BOTOX® treatments are conveniently done as outpatient procedures at Illuminate Med Spa. If it is your first time to visit us in Peoria, AZ for BOTOX®, we may perform the injection at the same appointment as your consultation. You will be asked to make various facial expressions using the upper face, such as squinting, frowning, etc., which will allow us to mark where the injections need to be placed. The skin will be cleansed, and BOTOX® will be applied with a fine needle, followed by a cold compress to help decrease discomfort, swelling, and bruising. You can request a numbing cream to make the procedure more comfortable, but it generally is unnecessary. BOTOX® injections typically take about 10 – 15 minutes; then you can resume your normal routine almost right away.

What to expect from your BOTOX® Treatment

After the procedure, you may get back to your typical routine, but strenuous activity should be skipped for at least one day. You will be asked to sleep with your head elevated for the first night and to not touch your face, which may result in accidentally spreading the treatment to other areas. The treated areas of the face may appear bruised, red, or swollen for 2 – 3 days, but you will not develop any severe or lasting side effects. In many cases, it takes about 5 – 7 days before the full effects of BOTOX® can be seen. The results usually last 3 – 4 months. You should speak to Dr. Ryan about how often to schedule your following appointments at Illuminate Med Spa to extend your results.

What's the difference between wrinkle relaxers and fillers?

Wrinkle relaxers (like BOTOX®) and wrinkle fillers (like Juvéderm® and Restylane®) are both treatments that reduce wrinkles and smooth fine lines. BOTOX® relaxes overused facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, like frown lines (between the eyebrows), Crow's feet (in the outer corners of the eyes), forehead wrinkles, and smile lines. Injectable fillers add volume under the skin to correct hollow areas and decrease static wrinkles. After hearing your goals, Dr. Ryan may recommend BOTOX®, fillers, or a combination of both for a liquid "facelift."

What's the difference between BOTOX®, Dysport, and Xeomin?

BOTOX®, Dysport, and Xeomin are brands of wrinkle relaxers that use botulinum toxin (type A). Each of these relax facial muscles to reduce dynamic wrinkles, but each formula is designed to suit specific areas and needs. There are subtle differences between them, including the dosing amounts, treatment spread, and length of results. Our specialists will work with you to choose the best injection to fit your goals.

Is BOTOX® safe?

When used properly, BOTOX® rarely causes any complications. With that said, it is important to select someone who has training in handling this medication. Overusing BOTOX® can create an undesirable outcome. A skilled practitioner will use just enough of the medication to effectively freeze the muscles that cause wrinkles while leaving nearby muscles unaffected. One of the most popular cosmetic treatments on the market today, it's safe and approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In addition to cosmetic uses, BOTOX® is also used to treat medical problems like facial spasms, excessive sweating, uncontrollable blinking, and migraines.
